In 1904 a new building was built to replace the 1870 Central school building. The first
classes were held there in 1905.
The building has been expanded many times, notably in 1951 when a new gymnasium
was added on the south, replacing the 1889 Central building, also known as the Manual
Arts building. The new addition to the high school was dedicated on December 2, 1951.
In 1956 the wooden stairways and dark hallways were replaced with concrete stairways
and bright, colorful corridors. Some of the improvments were: brightly painted hallways,
acoustical ceiling tiles, tile flooring and new lockers. Offices received a face-lift with new
plaster, paint and acoustical ceiling tiles. The $53,679 remodeling project was the first
extensive work undertaken on the building since its construction in 1904.
1966, addition to the east was made.
1979, learning resource center for entire public school system, plus additional CHS
gymnasium were added on the west side of Main Street directly opposite the entrance
to the high school.
In 1988 a new ground level auditorium was added on the north to replace a third-floor
auditorium.
