Dixie School History home
District No. 6 was created in 1886 from parts of districts 2 and 5. The District
encompassed parts of Townships 29 and 30, Range 31 and 32 in northern
Jasper County. The school, known as Dixie School, was first located four miles
northeast of the town of Alba. In September 1886, a new schoolhouse was
built one mile north of Alba. Dixie closed about 1920.
Uriah Smith Resigns
Uriah Smith who was recently elected representative by voters of the eastern district of
Jasper county has resigned his position of teacher of the Dixie school near Preston and
in his stead Miss Gertrude Etter of southeast of Jasper was named by the board. Mr Smith
has hired a substitute for some time but did not resign until after the election.
