June 5, 1882, Mrs. Alice E. Scantilin filed the teacher's record for the term's third
and final month at Green Grove School near Avilla, revealing enrollment of 38,
with average daily attendance of 33.
Perfect attendance awards were earned by Belle Franklin, Ina Hatten, Cora Hatten,
Maggie Pine, Hettie Franklin, Annie Smith, Mattie Smith and Belle Carson.
Green Grove closed its first month of school on Sept. 30, with the following report:
No. days taught, 20; no. of pupils enrolled, 25; average daily attendance, 16.125;
average no. of days attended by each pupil, 12.9; whole number of days attended
by all pupils, 222 1-2; No. cases of tardiness, 7; No. of cases of truancy, 0; No. of
cases of corporal punishment, 0.
Those not being tardy or absent are entitled to the Roll of Honor, as follows:
Frank Hyde, Will Ramsey, Charley Ramsey, Carrie Fath, Zoe Carson, Hattie Hyde.

Green Grove District, east of Carthage, was assigned to the Carthage R-9 School District by
the Missouri State Board of Education. The school was one of the long established rural
districts. In 1972 the district owned property was at the corner of 40 acres owned by
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Harris. At that time there were 12 elementary students and 16 high
school students in the district. In 1973, elementary school students were sent to Eugene
Field school in Carthage.
