In January 1912 Kendricktown residents discussed building a new two
room schoolhouse to replace the current building that the district was renting.
A building site consisting of three lots was selected in July. The land was
purchased for $400.00 from Silvanus Keller. Construction was started in
the summer and the school building was completed in early December.
Built of brick, the building contained two rooms, each 28x32 feet and a long
hallway running through it. Also constructed was a full basement that could be
used for classrooms in case of overcrowding. Total cost of the new school
was $5300.00.
Miss Genevieve Slade taught the lower grades and Jesse Grundy, who was
principal, taught the upper grades. At this time, there were about 85 students
enrolled in the Kendricktown school.
