Viewbank school was the first school house in Duval Township. It was
erected on section 1, township 29, range 33, in June, 1848, and the
first school was taught the following winter. Viewbank school was originally
called "Dogtrot" school.
The building was moved to a new location near North Fork river sometime
after 1911. The new location was about one mile southwest of the old location, on
section 2, township 29, range 33. It is assumed that the name of the school
was changed to Viewbank at this time as the new building was located
on the north bank of the river, however the school was still referred to as Dogtrot
in many school photos.
The school was closed in 1952.
Many thanks to Goldie Smith Kirk for the information on Viewbank School.
